Abstract:Objective To study the function of oral propranolol and topical timolol in the treatment of perineal and perianal superficial infantile hemangioma. Methods 86 cases of perineal and perianal superficial infantile hemangioma were treated with oral propranolol or topical timolol. There were 34 cases in propranolol group and 52 cases in timolol group. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after initiation of treatment respectively. Results After 1 month of treatment, the efficacy of propranolol and timolol showed no significant difference (P=015). After 3 and 6months of treatment, timolol group showed more significant regression of hemangioma (P=0039 and P=0011 respectively). The total incidence of adverse reaction in the two groups showed no significant difference (P=0629). Conclusion Topical timolol could be taken as the first choice for the treatment of perineal and perianal superficial infantile hemangioma.
