Abstract:【Abstract】 Objective To study the curative efficacy of levetiracetam addon therapy in treatment of elderly epileptic patients and its effects on TNFα, IL2, IL6 and ICAM1. Methods 80 patients of elderly epileptic received therapy from April 2016 and July 2016 in our hospital were selected as research objects, according to random table method with, those patients were divided into observation group (45 cases) and control group (45 cases). The control group was treated with carbamazepine combined with Phenobarbital. On the basis of the control group, the observation group was treated with levetiracetam, both groups were treated for 6 months. After treatment, the clinical efficacy, the serum TNFα, IL 2, IL6, ICAM1, and GCS, Barthel index, and MoCA scores were observed. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of observation group (8750%) was higher than that in the control group (6667%) (P<005). The levels of TNFα, IL2, IL6 and ICAM1 in the observation group were less than the control group, and the GCS, Barthel index and MoCA score were higher than the control group, and the difference between the two groups was significant (P<005). Conclusion Levetiracetam addon therapy in treatment of elderly epileptic patients can effectively improve the degree of coma, daily life ability and cognitive function, reduce the patients' serum TNFα, IL2, IL6, ICAM1 level and has significant clinical efficacy and safety.
