Abstract:【Abstract】 Objective To understand the awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) related knowledge of adults in Chengdu area and produce evidence for hospitals to carry out health education. Methods From 8th Oct to 20th Dec 2016, adults aged 18 years and above and willing to be interviewed were investigated using a selfdesigned questionnaire with 12 items when they attended health examination in Chengdu area. The percentage was used to describe the awareness rate, and the Chisquared test or Student's t test was applied to test its difference among different groups. Results 5561 copies of the questionnaire were handed out and taken back all. The respondent aged 19 through 85 years old (446±112) with male to female sex ratio of 117:1. All the contents of 12 items got awareness rate of less than 50%, among which 75% with that of less than 30%. The male got 2/3 content's awareness rates lower than the female, and the age difference showed in 5/12 items. The differences were observed among different occupations (with the enterprise employees getting the lowest) and education background (in 7/12 items). Conclusion There are great demands of COPD related health education in adults in Chengdu area, especially among the male and those working in enterprises. It is necessary to design different kinds of health education material for adults of various age groups and with diverse education backgrounds, so as to prioritize the health education and move forward the barrier to prevent disease development.
