Abstract:【Abstract】 Objective To reduce drug consumption in pharmacy intravenous admixture service (PIVAS). Methods The drug consumption in PIVAS by workflow from January, 2015 to June, 2015 was categorized. The causes of the drug consumption were analyzed and classified by controllable reasons and uncontrollable reasons. The applicable strategies were mad. The improvements were applied from July, 2015 to December, 2015. The effects of intervention by comparing drug consumption in all aspects before and after intervention were evaluated. Results After the intervention by optimizing workflow, improving the details of the work and developing and implementing rules, the number of cases of drug consumption by controllable reasons and the proportion of the total number of cases in the same period were significantly reduced. The difference was statistically significant(P<005). Uncontrollable reasons in all aspects of the drug consumption were not statistically reduced (P>005).Conclusion After the implementation of the intervention strategies for the drug consumption in links, such as improving previous working mode, optimizing operation process, perfecting the drug management system and so on, the effect of improvement in controllable reasons is larger than in uncontrollable reasons
