Abstract:【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the characteristics of blood flow fields in the aortic arch using velocity distribution, vortex formation, energy loss (EL) at different cardiac cycles. Methods 85 healthy subjects were divided into group A (20~39 years n=31), group B (40~59 years, n=34) and group C (≥60 years, n=20). VFM analysis was performed on prosound F75 HitachiAloka Medical (Tokyo, Japan) and included the twodimensional echocardiography imaging focused on the ascending aorta and descending aorta. The time phase and position of velocity distribution and vortex formation, systolic and diastolic EL were analyzed by VFM. Results The peak velocity (Vp) was observed in rapid ejection period. Vp in Group A was higher than that in Group B and Group C (P<0.05). In the period of isovolumic relaxation, vortex was observed in all subjects in the inner wall of the entire aortic arch. There was no statistically significant difference in the time phase and position of vortex in three groups (P>0.05). The EL in systole was higher than that in diastole in all subjects. The EL in Group A was higher than that in Group B, and EL in Group B was higher than that in Group C (P<0.05). Conclusion VFM provides a promising method for evaluating the hemodynamics characteristics of aortic arch in different ages. It also provides a reference for evaluating flow features in abnormal aortic arch.
