Abstract:【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the effect of longterm inhaled corticosteroids on bone mineral density in elderly patients with stable COPD. Methods 60 COPD stable phase patients older than 75 years old were enrolled, and were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group inhaled Symbicort (160ug/45ug) once or twice per day. The control group did not use any corticosteroids. Their bone mineral density and bone metabolic indexes (serum Calcium. Osteocalcin (BGP), Bone Alkaline Phosphatase (BAP)) were tested after 1 year. Results There was no significant difference in bone mineral density between the two groups and before and after treatment (P>005). The results of bone metabolic indexes were similar to those of bone mineral density. Conclusion There is no decreas of bone mineral density in the COPD stable phase patients who inhaled corticosteroids for long term.
