Abstract:【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the effectiveness of improved areola dermal flap subsiding technology for treatment of moderate to severe inverted nipples. Methods From September 2011 to September 2016, 36 patients (59 nipples) with moderate to severe inverted nipples were treated using improved areola dermal flap subsiding technology. The age ranged from 21 to 45 years. The unilateral nipples involved in 13 cases, bilateral nipple in 23 cases. Results All the operations were successfully performed. The primary healing of incision was obtained. The intraoperative inverted nipple correction rate was 100%. No swollen, bleeding, infection, or blood flow obstacle occurred. All cases were followed up 630 months. The shapes of nipples were satisfactory. No nipple inversion recurred, and bilateral nipples’ shape and feeling were symmetrical except 2 severe inverted nipples (34%) appear mild sensory disturbance in early period and recovered in six months. Conclusion Application of improved areola dermal flap subsiding technology can effectively cure moderate to severe inverted nipples. Compare to traditional methods, improved areola dermal flap subsiding technology can afford better nipple supporting, less local damage and scar hypertrophy.
